Take a Deep Breath – It’s National Stress-Awareness Month!

As I’m sitting here, listening to the French “Frozen” soundtrack (yes, I’m weird), I thought I’d share with you guys what the wonderful Jennifer from Vegas.com told me a few days ago. Now you all have probably heard about Breast Cancer Month, and stuff like that, but I’ve never heard about Stress-Awareness month! It’s nice to see that a bigger emphasis is being put on stress-management and such.

In honor of NSAM, I’ll show you all my top five favorite ways to de-stress and relax. Maybe you’ll incorporate one of these into your routine! *These are in no particular order*

Number One:    Pampering myself to a spa day! It’s easy, just take a day or two every couple weeks and enjoy a bubble bath, (I recommend with a Lush Bath Bomb!), make a homemade face mask like these I love, get a massage, or do whatever you want! The golden rule to de-stressing is that you always need to make time for you; you’ll feel much better when you do!

Number Two:     Escaping from reality with a book or Netflix can really help me feel jolly! Just make sure it’s a happy book or movie, no sad dog movies like “Marley and Me” XD. My favorites are the Eragon series, Once Upon a Time, and of course, the old Pokemon!

Number Three:  This might sound weird to some, but practicing makeup gets me really calm for some reason. It focuses me, and gets me in the “zone” I guess! Try it out, pick a cool new look on Pinterest and put your skills to the test! You never know what all you can do until you try it out! Psst, try a pop of coral or orange on your lips, it’s popular now!

Number Four:    Listen to, or make some music! I play piano, and let me just tell you, when you finally learn a new song, you play it over and over and it feels awesome! I remember in middle school when I learned the “Twilight” theme, that was the only thing I played for a while lol. Also, whenever I get home from school (and there’s no one here) I put on my Broadway Pandora station and sing along with the Wicked and Frozen cast! It helps me get out all the pent-up energy I have, and makes for a great vocal warm-up!

Number Five:      Lastly, I just love to spend time with my friends and family. Going out to eat every one in a while with everyone, or having a “play date” at the park is really special. Never underestimate the power of being with your loved ones!

Rosy Spring Tutorial

Even though it’s not quite Spring yet, I’m getting a bit excited over Spring makeup! I’m ready to say sayonara to dark and dreary Winter makeup. Pinks, orchids, and rose tones are making their entrance!

For the sake of switching things up, I’m going to be using my Shirley-Temple lookalike cousin Alysha for this tutorial tonight. We got secret Starbucks drinks earlier hehe…(Twix and Chocolate Raspberry)!

Ok, back to the tutorial 🙂

photo 1

1. First, prime your face to keep your makeup lasting all day. I used NYX’s photo-loving primer in the green shade to combat her redness.

2. Apply a liquid foundation for a medium, dewy coverage without the caked-on look. I used Skin 79 Oriental Gold BB Cream, then set with a loose powder.

3. For blush, apply any pink toned cream product. For this look we’re staying away from powders to ensure a fresh-faced and natural look. On the apples of her cheeks I used NYX’s cream blush stick in Orchid. To apply a stick blush like this, simply twist the tube on your cheek wherever you want a color-payoff, and blend with clean fingers or a brush.

4. Onto the eyebrows~ For Cara Delevigne-esque bold brows, shape your eyebrows with a brow pencil, then fill in any sparse areas with a eyeshadow or brow powder, then brush out any harsh lines. On Alysha I started her brows almost at the bridge of her nose and straightened her arch. I used NYX’s brow pencil in Dark Brown, and the Urban Decay Naked Pallet One’s shadow in Buck.

4. Next I contoured her eyes and nose with Benefit’s Hoola powder, blending the artificial shadows in with a small detail brush. Spend at least a minute blending whenever you contour to make sure it looks natural!

5. Lastly, I used Estee Lauder’s lipstick in Blush lightly on her lips to add a pop of warmth! Instead of sliding the lipstick on directly, dab it lightly on the lips to build up your desired color.

Hope you guys enjoy this beautiful and simple Spring look! What are you most excited about for Spring? Leave me a comment!

How To: Gradient Eyeliner

Ah, the snow is falling in my sleepy little town. We never, ever have gotten a snow this big (Thank you polar vortex/Elsa). Normally we are lucky to get a light dusting each year ^_^.

Ahhhhhh, alright…back to my original tutorial! So, in honor of the beautiful snow, tonight I’ll show you guys how to create a simple and angelic gradient eyeliner look. This look is perfect for anytime of the day, and you can make it edgier/softer depending on what color choices you pick!

The first variation will be the “Snow Baby” look. I’ll be using an angled eyeliner brush and my Lorac “Tease Me Truffles” pallet in plum.

The technique is easy. Apply your lightest shade along the whole lash line. Next with your medium shade, start applying at about where your pupil starts. Lastly apply the darkest shade on the last third of your lash line. Just continue layering more eyeshadow on if needed to make the color stand out more.

Pretty cool huh?

Next, I’ll show you how to spice it up a bit with a night time variation.
Here’s the products I’ll be using:

Again, I lined my whole lid with the gold, filled in the middle with the dark brown, and then finished off the lid with a winged black tip for a pop of sass.
And here it is completed:

These both literally took less than 2 mins. Paired with a quick pop of blush, mascara and a neutral lip, these looks make for a seriously quick and trendy update to your routine! Try it with colors that complement your own eye color, or try bright neons! This look is about being creative and having fun, so go for it!

Goodnight, and enjoy the snow if you’re in NC!
