Along with beautiful clothes, jewelry, shoes, etc, I received my long anticipated Em Cosmetics wrapped up for Christmas!
This brand, coined by the guru-to-top-all-gurus Michelle Phan, is best known for her gigantic Life Palates. For my wishlist, I decided to try some of her more affordable, smaller items so I could get more. I’ll go ahead and say, my rating for Em after trying each product is a 3.5 out of 5. Here’s why:
1. Chiaroscuro Contour & Highlight Stick in Fair
I was the most excited about this product I think. Mish features it a lot in her tutorials, and it looked pretty dreamy on camera. In reality, its nice to contour your nose with, but I had trouble getting it to look natural when sculpting my cheeks. The highlighting end looks great on the cupid’s bow and nose as well, but I prefer my Benefit Highbeam for my cheeks. Would I buy this again? I don’t think so.
2. Pillow Plush Lip Balm in “Berries”

Now I do actually like this product! It has an interestingly thick consistency, so a little goes a long way. It’s not globby and feels silky on your lips. I like this color especially since I’m a fan of darker lips. It’s also buildable, so you can rock rosy lips or full on blackberry toned lips!
3. The Great Cover Up Concealer in Fair Neutral/Cool
With myself being so dang pale it’s hard to find a good concealer that doesn’t make me look like the infamous “Tan Mom”. My go-to is NYX’s great concealers, but I wanted to see if there was a better, high-end concealer for me. I got the lightest shade offered, and as you can tell from my swatch, it’s a bit too warm for me. *le sigh*… But the good news is, it doesn’t look bad when just used around the eyes and on spots. It also blends well and you only need a teeny bit. Is it a bad product? Not in the slightest. It’s just a little too dark for me!
4. Waterliner in Ro’s Gold and Black Night
If you’ve seen Michelle’s “Twilight Noir” Tutorial, you’d know that these waterliners are supposedly a blessing from Heaven. I was particularly anxious to try these since they claim to last all day on your waterline without smudging, hence the name. I’ve never found an eyeliner that wont budge, and sadly, I’m still looking. These best-seller colors are gorgeous and very creamy, but they don’t quite live up to their name on me. Granted I have oily eyelids and such, but still, I’m a little disappointed.
Well that about sums up my little review. Hopefully if you decide to try these, you’ll have a little better luck than I did! Heck, go out and try it, I’m sure our lady Michelle put a lot of effort into her line; it’s a big deal.
Goodnight everyone, and have a “Happy Happy Happy” New Year!
